Symphonic Fusion - an Orient-West Musical Connection
Co-hosted by the Sydney Meya Conservatory of Chinese Music and MELOPHILE MUSIC, the “Symphonic Fusion” - an Orient-West Musical Connection took place at St Leonards, Sydney, Australia on 10th November.
That night, Sydney Meya Conservatory of Chinese Music’s director and dizi (bamboo flute) performer Dong Min, along with members of the Sydney Meya Conservatory of Chinese Music and other artists, delivered a stunning performance to nearly 300 attendees, blending Eastern and Western cultures through music.
The repertoire included 14 classic pieces from China and the West, such as Ode to the Yellow River, Libertango, and 10,000 Reasons. The collaboration of traditional Chinese instruments like the dizi, yangqin, pipa, erhu, and ruan with Western instruments like the piano and guitar showcased the harmonious resonance between the two musical traditions.
Dong Min remarked that this concert brought together numerous Chinese and Australian artists, serving not only as a musical collaboration but also as a cultural exchange. Since its establishment in 2015, Sydney Meya Conservatory of Chinese Music has been dedicated to promoting Chinese folk music culture through concerts and educational activities. This cross-cultural exchange aims to showcase and elevate the unique charm of Chinese music, bringing traditional Chinese music to a global audience.
